Welcome to the Welcome Party Party!

Yes, I’ve been waiting a long time to say that! I’ve been working up the courage to put some quilt patterns out into the world for a long time now and I tell you, it’s funny. Now that the time has come I’m not nervous at all. I’m just happy and proud for heading into a creative direction that has intrigued me for so long. I love this pattern so much that I don’t really care what the response is, I’m just very happy to be sharing it with everyone! Why do I love this pattern so much? Oh, friends. LET ME TELL YOU!!

Introducing the Welcome Party Quilt Pattern!

It’s easy. It’s fast. It’s striking. It comes in a million different sizes. It works with so many different fabric cuts. It’s simple and geometric allowing the fabrics to be the main event. It can be feminine or masculine, bold or subtle, busy or soothing. Oh, and it’s on sale.

Um, it might be the perfect quilt.

Okay, I’ll chill out. That’s a bit of a boast and I almost take it back. But I really do love having such a fun and friendly quilt pattern as my first release and I can’t wait to see what you do with your Welcome Party Quilt Pattern!!

Fabric Requirements

When I mentioned it works with several different fabric cuts I wasn’t kidding. As you can see from the Fabric Requirements excerpt here, there are lots of options. You can use FQs, HYs, or even just yardage. AND you can mix and match. As you can read here, you get to choose one option for the lighter fabrics, and one for the contrasting darker fabrics. So if you wanted to use a pile of FQs you have sitting around and set them off with one ‘background’ fabric you totally can!

As an example, the cover quilt is a throw size made of 5 HYs as my ‘dark’ fabrics, and then 2 1/2 yards of one ‘light’ fabric. I’ll point out what other cuts of fabrics have been used in the other samples below.

Don’t forget, TCQ has a handful of Fat Quarter bundles in our fabric shop if you are looking for something lovely!

Scrappy Version!!

Oh, I’m sorry. Did I forget to mention it’s also
SCRAP FRIENDLY?!?!?

It is, it really is!! This one from the oh-so-talented Mary Warren (@sewmaryhappy) might the happiest, scrappiest version we are ever going to see! I am SO lucky she made this for us to use as an example of just how fun and versatile this pattern is. If you are not following her on IG yet, your quilting world is not complete.

This one is almost exclusively from Ruby Star Society fabrics and is very bright and friendly. What an excellent way to showcase all of your favorite little bits of leftover fabrics! You gotta tell me, what fabrics would end up in your scrap version???

Giveaway and My Favorite!!

To help celebrate the release of this pattern we are hosting a giveaway on IG Friday evening - Sunday evening. Be sure to look for that post and follow those instructions!

The prizes are a FQ bundle of Ruby Star Society’s Rashida Coleman Hale’s Linear fabric, used to make this quilt, AND $100 towards longarm quilting services on any one project!

This one is my favorite. I love these fabrics, I love these colors, I love this pantograph. Gosh dang it, I love it all!

This quilt is a throw made from 20 FQs. We used the Devon panto from Sew Shabby Quilting to give it that smooth yet linear texture. Mm, mm, mmmmm.

Art Gallery and Friends for the Win!

Well, okay. THIS one is my favorite!!

Partially because it’s stunning and partially because of who made it. I convinced my mom and her best friend, a pandemic quilter, to test this pattern for me. Pam is not only my mom’s best friend, she’s also her neighbor, my best friend from high school’s mother-in-law, my best customer (though you can’t tell her husband, okay?), and more and more, my own dear friend.

This one is is a throw using the FQ option for the dark fabrics and one color yardage for the light. We used 10 PURE Solid Art Gallery FQs and Delicate Balance in Alabaster as the yardage. Then check out that AGF backing fabric with the Rosemary panto from Dastardly Line Quilting. SWOON!!

If you are looking for places to start shopping for your own Art Gallery PURE Solids, Ruby Star Society Speckleds, and other really great fabrics, you should check out some of our favorite fabric shops on our ‘Friends of TCQ’ page.

Happy and Cheery on the Beach!!

I mentioned above that I talked my mom and her friend, Pam, into testing for me. The truth is, I didn’t have to do any convincing. They were on board from the get go - particularly my mom. She’s my biggest cheerleader, supporter, and fan. Without her there would be no Trace Creek Quilting. Nor would we have this other favorite version of mine!

For hers, we decided to get BUSY! This is one of Rifle Paper Co’s best floral prints and no way was it going to be left out! In the end, there isn’t much contrast between it as a background fabric and all the happy speckleds we used, but all that cheer and brightness is very fun to have in the house, in the studio, and as I discovered, on the beach!!

This throw uses Rifle Paper Co’s Wildwood Garden Party Petite as the one color yardage ‘background’ and 10 coordinating FQs of Ruby Star Society Speckled. It’s quilted with the Happy panto and backed with a coral colored microfiber blanket. I’ve got a blog post on Suzy Quilt’s website about when it makes sense to use a microfiber blanket, and further details in my own Backing FAQ page.

Just One More….

And you guessed it. This one is also my favorite!! A big part of that is because of the backing fabric. And the fronting fabric. Why? It’s all wovens from Fableism!! Sprouted Wovens for the top and a subtle stripe from the Monarch Grove collection for the backing fabric. Man, I’m gonna be sad to send this back to Christine (@oh.sew.christine). I bet it’s going to be the softest thing in the world after it’s washed a couple of times…..

Sometimes linens and wovens can be intimidating to work with but Welcome Party is an excellent pattern for your first attempt. The instructions are written for nested seams which will help absorb and minimize any extra stretch and movement that comes when working with less stable fabrics.

Christine used 10 FQs of the warmer Sprouted Woven fabrics and the Sugar color in one color yardage for the light color. To soften it up, I used Stacked Snailz panto from Urban Elementz.

So last but not least, I want to take a quick second to say THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me get this first pattern off the ground. There were so many more of you out there cheering for me and showing me encouragement than I expected and I want you to know I took it all to heart. An extra thank you to my testers (Christine, Mary, Pam, and Mom), my tech editor (Jessica Schunke from Blue Sky Modern Craft) and my website assistant (Kristin). MWAH!!

Alright, we’ve all lingered long enough! If you’ve managed to make it past all my ‘buy here’ buttons thus far, your time is out! Buy this fast, easy, versatile Welcome Party Quilt Pattern now!! Be sure to tag us in IG or send us some photos later this weekend once yours is done! ;)
