Jelly Mix and Jelly Remix Quilt Patterns
Introducing sister quilt patterns Jelly Mix and Jelly Remix!! Two pre-cut friendly quilt patterns using, you guessed it, Jelly Rolls! So get out those Designer Rolls, Rolie Polies, Strip Rolls, and whatever else you might call 2.5” x WOF bundles of fabric and get ready to make a fast and fun family favorite.
Jelly Mix is the big sister - the original manifestation of my desire to design a fast jelly roll quilt that used as much of the fabric as possible. This cover quilt is a lap size made from all 40 strips of just one jelly roll. (RSS’s Rashida Coleman-Hale Linear roll that I had been saving for just the right occasion!) It is fast, fabric efficient, and just the right size for gifts, snuggles, and happy dreams.
The starting point of my design was just mixing all the strips of a jelly roll together for ease and efficiency. But then, as usual, I started having ideas and thought it might be fun to give the fabrics some space which resulted in adding in a background fabric. Voila! A whole other look in Variation 2 of Jelly Mix emerged!
BUT THEN I had this crazy cool experience of working with Tula Pink’s Legendary fabric collection and it seemed such a shame to not showcase some of her classic, deliciously large, Tula prints. My wheels got turning and Jelly Remix was born. Jelly Remix mixes the jelly roll blocks of Jelly Mix with some large cuts of fabric most easily sourced from fat quarters.
I pitched the idea to the Tula Pink team and they sent me the Legendary fabrics to make this absolute manifestation of giggles in the park cover quilt!
Like the original pattern, Jelly Remix has 2 variations. For consistency with its big sister, Variation 2 adds in a background fabric to give all the fabrics some space as in the cover above. The quilt in the photos above is a Variation 2 large throw and is made from one jelly roll, a background fabric, and 6 fat quarters.
But Variation 1 is not to be outdone! Using a jelly roll and 5 fat quarters, supplied by my good friends at Pink Door Fabrics, we now have a spectacular sample of a Variation 1 throw in Tula Pink’s Legendary fabrics. The fabrics are paired together in each block to create contrast and whimsy in your new favorite quilt.

A word or two about the fabric requirements:
I know folks like to see the fabric requirements before making a purchase, especially on patterns that use pre-cuts. I’m more than happy to provide them here.
BUT.
I strongly encourage reading all of the information provided in the pattern about the fabric before making additional purchases. Because of the way I structure my charts, have multiple variations, and show different ways to source the fabric, the extra text provided in the pattern can be helpful.
Question from the Audience: Do I have to use a jelly roll?
Answer from TCQ: Nope!! I wanted to design a quilt that was jelly roll friendly both to challenge myself as a designer and to use up some rolls I had hanging around the studio. However, a jelly roll is just a bunch of strips of fabric 2.5” x WOF and can be sourced from any fabrics that fit those parameters. In the pattern, our fabric requirement charts will let you know how many strips are needed for each style and size. It is important to note that for these blocks to work, the WOF HAS to be a minimum of 42” of usable fabric.
Another Q: Why 2 different patterns? Why not combine them into one?
Answer: Fair question. They are both based on the same block and have a lot of the same instructions. However, the layout of Jelly Remix limits it to being a square quilt. Since one of my original goals was versatility, I didn’t want to be so restricted. In addition to that, the fabric requirements are pretty different for similarly sized quilts and it would have just mucked up the pattern to have so many options. Q: How efficient is this pattern with the jelly rolls?
A: It depends on the size and style. The Variation 1 Jelly Mix lap size uses pretty much every bit of one jelly roll for the quilt top and nothing else. Absolute pre-cut perfection. However, the king size of the same quilt only uses a couple of the strips of the 5th jelly roll. While you can use several of the leftover strips for binding, you’ll still have several strips leftover. I’ll also admit that the squares cut from the fat quarters in Jelly Remix are not particularly efficient, but it’s the easiest way to purchase what is required and it gives lots of room for fussy cutting large prints.
Q: Do you offer the patterns in digital or print form?
A: BOTH!! You can buy any of your favorite TCQ quilt patterns in either digital or physical form. Fun, right?? It took us awhile to get the physical ones up and running, and honestly some of our earlier ones are still in progress as we work to improve the quality of them. But step by step we are working to meet you where you are in your quilt making.

I suspect these two very fun Jelly Remixes made from Tula Pink’s Legendary fabric line will be the most popular of all the kits. While the fabric isn’t available until October, a handful of fabric shops are doing pre-orders so you don’t have to fight the masses when it hits stores. Pink Door Fabrics provided me with the fabric to make Variation 1 and it’s just the best throw ever. Tula’s team themselves sent me the fabric for Variation 2 and for that I’ll treasure it forever. Plus, in all honestly, it’s my favorite version of all the jelly quilts I’ve made (and I’ve made at least 6 - HA!). I’ve got links below to get you to all the shops offering these pre-orders.
