Skill Level: Easy Beginner
Finished Size: Throw (55” x 65”)

As a comfortable throw size, Beach Party is designed to be easy, fast, and fun. It’s perfect for beginners or those of you who need to whip something up quickly for a road trip, gift, or when you don’t have much sewing time but want to feel like you’ve accomplished something.

Beach Party Fabric Requirements

Beach Party is made up of a background fabric, five clusters of big stripes in different coordinating colors, and a thinner inside stripe that is the same color throughout the quilt. The chart lists the exact inches required for each fabric in case you have just enough in your stash, as well as the yardage requirements (with a little wiggle room) if you’re buying fabric.

*Backing yardage accounts for the additional 8” of overage typically required for longarm quilting services. It does NOT account for directional fabric. Adjust as needed.

** Binding yardage accommodates up to 2 ½”-wide strips.

For the cover quilt I used Ruby Star Society Speckled in Blue Ribbon, Bright Blue, Clementine, Sunshine, Burnt Orange, Turquoise, and Cream. For the backing I used yellow terry cloth for that true beach towel feel! It’s quilted with the Sunrise Panto from my favorite panto designer, Melissa at Sew Shabby Quilting, which just pushed it over the edge into my definition of perfection.

My daughter and I made this pink, purple, and black Beach Party for her teacher at the end of the school year. You know how it goes, that sewing scramble right before a deadline. But it gave me the push I needed to get this pattern finalized and one step closer to this moment! This version is a combo of both their favorite colors and almost as bright and cheerful as her teacher, who we could not be more grateful for this year! We simply used 3 colors for the stripes instead of 5, and you know me. I can’t resist a soft fluffy backing fabric!

I really like the simplicity of the Beach Party Quilt and how it works in so many colorways. I have a few examples for you below. (Yes, I’m aware there are waaaay more than a few, but it was so FUN to mock it up I couldn’t stop!) It can be fun and playful for a cute kiddo, moody and masculine for that guy in your life and anywhere in between. In my mind, it works best with solid or like solid fabrics. These types of fabrics will give it the most visual impact. With that being said, I’m always impress by the creativity of quilters and I’m sure someone will have a beautiful vision of it in some crazy prints!

Here are some that are nice an subtle and quite lovely!

If bright and cheery are your jam, then these might provide some fun inspiration!

Here are a few more, because I had to see what it would look like in Christmas colors, one in black and white, and then another in……. you get the idea. :)

If you’ve managed to make it all the way down here and haven’t signed up for the newsletter, I’d like to invite you to do so now! Not only do you get the Beach Party pattern, but also future patterns, discount info, and lots of good info about the longarming process.

Well, that’s the gist of it. I’m writing patterns. You get a free one. We are all excited and ready to start sewing!! I’ll see you soon with more fun news and updates for Trace Creek Quilting!!
