Quilt Photography Details and FAQs
-
Utilizing our services is an easy, peasy two step process. First, complete the order form. Second, pack your order form with your quilt and send it all our way!
If you are utilizing Trace Creek Quilting’s longarm quilting services before we take photos, excellent! Simply tuck your photo order form in with your quilt and we will add on that service while it is in the studio.

Check out our main photography page for details on the three packages we offer, costs, and the order form.

If you are using Trace Creek Quilting as a longarming service, your photos will be taken after your quilt services are complete. When all goes well, this happens within the usual 4 week turnaround time period. Occasionally the weather and our schedules get tricky and we need an extra week or so to get good photos. The digital photos will then be available to you within two weeks of your quilt arriving home.
If you do not need longarming services and are just using our photography services, we will take your quilt with us on our next photo shoot after it arrives at TCQ, usually within a week or two. You will then get an invoice via email and the photos will be available to you within two weeks of your quilt arriving back home.
-
All photos for the Everyday and Extended packages will be accessible a resolution suitable for social media, scheduling platforms and websites. If you need a higher resolution, let us know and we will make it available.
Show Package photos will be made available in the resolution required by the show application process.
-
Let us know what you are looking for and we can let you know if we can accommodate it! Some special requests may bump us into a different package or incur extra charges but we will discuss all of that up front.
-
If your quilt is with us for longarming, this service will simply be added onto your typical invoice. If not, you will get an invoice via email once we have taken your photos and the quilt is available to come home. We will then continue with the editing and organizing on our end and your photos will be made available to you within 2 weeks of your quilt arriving home.
-
Within two weeks of your quilt arriving home, you will receive a link to a Google Drive folder in which your photos will live for up to 3 months after your photos are made available to you.
-
Just like most photography packages, the photos taken belong to the company that made them. Trace Creek Quilting will retain that ownership and the right to use the photos to help promote our work. However, you have paid to have them made and to have access to use them as necessary to promote yourself, your skills, and your products.
Outside entities, businesses, or individuals who wish to use them must receive written consent from Trace Creek Quilting to publish or use the photos.
It is our intent to be fairly laid back about this as long as folks are being respectful which includes asking for permission and giving appropriate credit to TCQ.

1) We are located in St. Louis, MO which has all 4 seasons, sometimes all in the same day. We do our best to make great photos regardless of the limitations and delays the weather and seasonal conditions may impose upon us.
2) Occasionally, quilts in the wild get a bit dirty. We do everything (and I mean everything) to try to prevent this. But sometimes that perfect fold includes a railing with a tad bit more dust on it than we accounted for.
3) We typically go out for photos once a week though it is not unusual for us to skip a week due to scheduling conflicts or the weather. If we end up needing an unusually long time to capture the perfect photo of your quilt we will be in touch.

Flat lays are perfectly flat images of a quilt shot in a studio with either no background or a solid white background. These photos are typically used for the cover of quilt patterns, advertisements, and other sophisticated uses. If this is something you would like or need let me know and I will let you if we can make it happen. There is an additional fee of $20 to cover the extra editing required to remove the background.
