The Camping Party Quilt Pattern

This summer Trace Creek Quilting teamed up with fabric shop rock star, Laura Parry of Global Fiber Shop, to create the Camping Party Quilt Pattern! (I swear not all of my quilt patterns will be named ‘party’. Though honestly, would it be that terrible….?)

This collaborative quilt pattern is intended to be easy and quick, as well as visually striking. From dark and heavy to pale and petite, it is excellent for any occasion and any friend. We will be using ours in front of a campfire while we roast marshmallows and tell tales of all the quilts past and yet to come!

But wait, that’s not the best part! The best part is that Camping Party is a FREE download from the Global Fiber Shop’s newsletter. Just sign on up and boom. Free Camping Party Quilt Pattern. Easy, peasy, roasted marshmallow squeezy. I hope you enjoy making yours as much as I enjoyed working with Laura to create it for you.

Camping Party Fabric Requirements

Camping Party is made by alternating clusters of skinny stripes with wider stripes to create the visual of six colors fading in and out of one another. The chart lists the exact inches required for each fabric in case there is just enough in your stash, as well as the yardage requirements (with a little wiggle room) if you’re buying fabric. Note that the pattern requires the full 42” WOF, so adjust accordingly if your fabric is less than 42” wide. This pattern is most striking with solids or solid-like fabrics.

*Backing yardage accounts for the additional 8” of overage typically required for longarm quilting services. It does NOT account for directional fabric. Adjust as needed.

** Binding yardage accommodates up to 2 ½”-wide strips.

For the cover quilt we used Ruby Star Society Speckled Natural, Teal Navy, Bluebell, Wine Time, Cayenne, and Earth. For the backing, we used Wandering with Bear in Flannel by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics for something that was sure to be snuggle worthy around the campfire. It’s quilted with the Fly Loop pantograph from Sew Shabby Quilting to soften the lines yet keep that linear effect.

The second sample we made showcases the range of colors that look excellent with this pattern. Softening things up and moving the lightest fabric to the center gives off a lighter feel while still moving your eye smoothly from one color to the next. We used AGF PURE solids in Bewitched, Sugar Plum, Dried Roses, Miami Sunset, Dried Carrot, and Ethereal Pink. The backing is a gorgeous linen giving it a little weight that will feel great in the autumn air. Sticking with that linear feel, I used Inset Flying Geese pantograph from Sew Shabby Quilting.

Much like my first pattern, Beach Party, the simplicity of Camping Party is visually so appealing and it works in so many colorways. I imagine it working best with solid or like solid fabrics that contrast yet compliment each other, both in expected and unexpected ways.

If you’ve managed to make it all the way down here and haven’t signed up for the Global Fiber Shop newsletter, I’d like to invite you to do so now! Not only do you get the Camping Party pattern, but also all the notifications, discounts, and exciting news coming out of her shop. She’s a sweetie, she has great stuff, and now there is a free quilt pattern to boot. I think that’s all you really need to know.
